On May 21, 2026, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) welcomed a high-level delegation from Mongolia to its campus in Zittau. The visit focused on discussions regarding engineering degree programs, the academic and living conditions of international students, and prospects for further collaboration between HSZG and Mongolian partners.

The delegation consisted of representatives from the Mongolian Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the General Authority for Education, the National Institute for Educational Research, the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT), and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). The delegation was welcomed by HSZG Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch and Susanne Fentzel. Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil and Prof. Dr. Małgorzata Maćkowiak, as well as other representatives of the university, also participated in the subsequent discussions and expert presentations.

Among the guests were Dendeviin Terbishdagva, former acting Prime Minister of Mongolia and former Mongolian Ambassador to Germany, as well as Prof. Dr. Battsengel Baatar, Rector of the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology.

The program began with a visit to the high-voltage laboratory of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. There, the guests gained insight into the university’s teaching and research infrastructure. The delegation then visited the student residence on the Mandau to learn about housing and recreational opportunities for students in Zittau.

During a joint meeting in the University Library, representatives from HSZG presented degree programs in the fields of electrical engineering, mechatronics, and Mechanical Engineering. Among other things, study opportunities in the fields of energy engineering, automation, smart grids, and modern production and manufacturing technologies were presented. In addition, the University Language Centre, the services offered by the Office of Academic Affairs and International Programs, and support services for international students were introduced.

Another key focus of the discussions was the language preparation of international students. Options were highlighted for how prospective students can be prepared for studying in Germany. In this context, the university also presented the programs offered by the 'Studienkolleg' (preparatory college) at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

In addition, the participants exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation between HSZG and Mongolian partner institutions. Among other topics, they discussed opportunities for academic exchange as well as the further development of existing contacts in the field of engineering.

The visit built on the existing collaboration between Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology. Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023, several reciprocal visits and technical discussions have taken place. The current visit continued this exchange and provided an opportunity to deepen existing ties.

During the subsequent joint lunch in the university student canteen, the discussions continued in an informal atmosphere. The visit gave the guests a comprehensive impression of the study conditions at HSZG—from modern laboratories and support services to student housing and campus-adjacent infrastructure.
